Direction 03 of 7 · Trillium Visual Directions

On the Record.

Founder-led as accountability, not warmth. Every claim on the site carries a person’s name and the date it was true — set as a brass-ruled dateline, the way a document is signed.

Palette oxblood field, bone ink, brass rule Type Young Serif / Archivo / JetBrains Mono Occupancy oxblood: 0 of 35 brands

The device

A claim with nobody’s name on it is an advertisement.

The same promise, twice. On the left as the whole category writes it — warm, unattributable, undated. On the right with a person and a date attached, which is the only change this direction makes and the only one it needs.

A claim, the way the category makes it

“Our dedicated care team is here to support you every step of the way.”

No name. No date. Nothing a reader can check. The 27-competitor audit found this construction almost everywhere, and the Diligent Researcher — 35% of the base — discounts it on sight.

01 · Why this one

Founder-led doesn’t mean friendly. It means answerable.

The pillar says the brand should sound like a person rather than a corporate voice. The obvious reading of that is warmth — a founder video, a signature, a softer tone. That reading produced the direction we cut, and it drifted straight into the wellness cliché the guidelines already prohibit.

This is the other reading. If a person is behind the claim, put their name on it and date it. That turns a brand attribute into a mechanic: every proof point on the site becomes a record with an author, and the reader can hold someone to it. It serves the proof-seeking 60% of the base for the same reason a byline serves a newspaper reader — not because it is warmer, but because it is checkable.

Why oxblood

The palette survey found zero of 35 brands using oxblood or aubergine. It is the one dark that reads warm rather than clinical — apothecary glass, wine, old pharmacy cabinetry — and unlike blush or navy it doesn’t gender, which matters when HRT and men’s wellness eventually share one brand. It is also the closest thing in the set to a colour Trillium could own outright.

02 · Palette

A field, not an accent

The research is blunt about the risk: dark reds are hard to make legible in UI, which is exactly why the lane is empty. The resolution is to stop treating oxblood as an accent and let it be the field — a large calm ground with bone type on it — then keep brass strictly for rules and datelines, and never tint a form control.

#47182AOxblood. The field. Carries the majority of every view.
#572034Raised surface. Cards, the thesis cell, review tiles.
#6B2F44Line. Every divider and card edge. Never a fill.
#C9A8B1Muted rose. Secondary copy and labels. 5.9:1 on the field.
#F3EDE4Bone ink. All primary type. 10.7:1 — clears AAA.
#D8AF35Brass. Rules, datelines and the CTA only. Never body text.

Brass past about 6% of a view stops reading as a signature and starts reading as decoration — the same discipline coral needs in direction 01, applied to a different colour.

Coral is retired here

This is the first direction where the brand’s one recognisable colour goes away entirely. Brass takes the CTA. That is a genuine cost — the architecture brief names coral as the universal action colour — and it needs to be a deliberate trade rather than a side effect. The inverted portal band is the one place the palette is shown the other way round: bone ground, oxblood type, so the system is legible in both directions.

The one pairing this palette forbids

Brass on the oxblood field is fine at 7.06:1 — but brass on the bone band is 1.79:1 and is never usable, at any size, for anything. That is the trap in a palette that inverts: an accent that is safe on one ground is invisible on the other, and the inverted band is exactly where someone would reach for it to keep the brand recognisable. On the bone band the accent role goes to the field colour itself at 12.60:1, and the body drops to a muted plum at 6.46:1. --faint is below the text threshold deliberately — it is only the dash before a list item.

03 · Typography

A serif that signs, a grotesk that works

Young Serif sets anything that speaks — headlines, claims, category names. It is a chunky old-style display face with real personality, one weight only, and effectively no presence in US health, so it carries a document-like authority without reading as the wellness display serif everyone else uses. Archivo does the working type: UI, labels, figures. JetBrains Mono is reserved for one job, and it is the whole point of the direction.

The dateline is the design system

One rule, one mono line, one date format: NAME · ROLE · MM.YYYY, brass, uppercase, always sitting under a 1px brass rule. It appears on claims, on process steps, on category pages, in support macros and on the About page. If a statement can’t carry one, that is the signal it shouldn’t be on the site — which makes the type treatment double as the content review gate.

04 · Photography

The people who are actually answerable

Every frame is someone at work in a real room, lit by low afternoon sun through a window that throws a hard, defined shadow on a pale wall — and the whole room stays legible, corner to corner. Half the set looks straight into the camera; the other half is mid-task and ignoring it. What the set must never look like is a leadership page: no folded arms, no seamless grey, no white coats.

Anchor frame

Direct address, composed rather than smiling, sleeves rolled, real clutter on the table. The burgundy shirt carries the palette. This is what a byline looks like as a photograph.

Named, not staged

Support staff photographed the way a newspaper photographs a source — at their own desk, in their own clothes, with the filing cabinet and the corkboard left in frame.

Plain over polished

Cardboard boxes and a whiteboard behind her, no styling, calm neutral expression. A three-person company should look like a three-person company.

The work being done

Mid-task, mid-sentence, nobody addressing the camera. Balances the direct-address portraits so the set reads documentary rather than corporate.

The dateline, physically

A signed and dated page with the pen still on it. The one still life the direction needs, because it is the typographic device rendered as an object.

Lean into

  • Low afternoon sun through a window, throwing one hard defined shadow.
  • Pale walls, wood, paper. The whole room legible to the far corner.
  • Half the set looking straight down the lens. Composed, not smiling.
  • The other half mid-task and ignoring the camera entirely.
  • Real workplaces — a desk, a corkboard, boxes, a kettle, a filing cabinet.
  • One burgundy or rose garment per frame to carry the palette.
  • Documents, pens, printed pages. Signatures over screenshots.

Avoid

  • Anything that reads as a leadership or team page. No folded arms.
  • Seamless grey or white backdrops. Photograph the actual room.
  • White coats, stethoscopes, exam rooms, vials, syringes.
  • Pharmacy interiors or compounding benches — Trillium is not the pharmacy.
  • Handshakes, laptop-pointing, whiteboard-gesturing, headset smiles.
  • Single-spotlight compositions and heavy vignettes.
  • Retouching that removes lines, texture or grey hair — the point is a real person.
Production note

AI-generated art direction, not shootable assets — and this direction is the one where that gap matters most. A direction built on named, accountable people cannot ship with synthetic faces. The shoot is small (one day, the actual team, their actual desks) but it is non-negotiable, and it should happen before any of this copy goes live.

05 · The website

Homepage, in your block order

Same sequence as the live site, with one section added that only this direction can carry: On the record — the proof library rendered as signed statements. The nav condenses on scroll, the review strip pauses on hover, and every dateline fades in a beat after its claim.

TRILLIUM MEDS IS AN ADMINISTRATIVE AND ORDERING PLATFORM. IT IS NOT A MEDICAL PROVIDER AND NOT A PHARMACY.
Clinical and eligibility decisions are made independently by Wasef Health providers. Compounded medications are not FDA-approved. Tirzepatide plans as low as $133/mo apply to the 3-month starter plan for patients new to GLP-1 medications. Some HSA/FSA cards are accepted — try at checkout. Some states require a brief phone call before a first prescription. Pricing shown as published 09.2026.

06 · Consequences

What choosing this commits you to

AreaConsequence
Named peopleTrevin, Mike and Casy become publicly attached to specific claims. That is the direction's whole mechanism and it is also a real ask — it needs each person's agreement before a single dateline ships, not after.
MaintenanceA dated claim goes stale visibly. Every dateline needs an owner and a review cadence, or the device turns from a trust signal into evidence of neglect. This is the direction's biggest operational cost.
CoralRetired. Brass takes the action colour, which contradicts the architecture brief's universal-CTA rule and obsoletes existing ad and social templates.
Founder visibilityPushes homepage visibility from moderate toward high, and the model deliberately sets category pages to low. The dateline device scales down gracefully; a founder video does not.
PhotographyMust be real, and must be these actual people. The only direction of the three built so far where synthetic imagery isn't just imperfect but self-defeating.
AccessibilityBone on oxblood clears AAA at 10.7:1 and rose clears AA at 5.9:1. Brass is fill-and-rule only — brass as body text on this field fails and must never be used that way.
Category scaleWorks everywhere, and is strongest exactly where trust is hardest: HRT and men's wellness both benefit from a named person standing behind the claim.
Decision needed — before any of this is drafted further

Three people would be publicly named and quoted. Each of them has to agree to that individually, and it is a different conversation from approving a visual direction. Worth settling early, because if any of the three is a no, the mechanic gets thinner and the direction weakens considerably.

What it does with the frozen figures

Nothing here uses the recommend-rate number, the dispute count, or the “you don’t have to fight us” line. That is deliberate: the dateline device only works with claims that are verified today, so it routes around the frozen entries in the proof library rather than waiting on them. Of the three directions built so far, this is the one least blocked by Decision #1.
